I attended the 4th "Kagurazaka heno Izanai (Invitation to Kagurazaka)," Tokyo geisha event. This event was held at Tokyo Daijingu Matsuya Salon, where guests enjoyed a special kaiseki bento while watching geisha performances, including dance, singing, and shamisen music.

A Rare Geisha Event in Tokyo Where You Can Meet All Kagurazaka Geisha
Sixteen Kagurazaka geisha (one was absent due to illness) visited each table, offering Senjafuda (name stickers) to guests and engaging in conversation. It was a wonderful opportunity to interact with the geisha personally. Additionally, I was able to fully appreciate the exquisite performances, the result of their daily training in dance, singing, and shamisen.

The program featured five performances:
"Hatsuharu" (Early Spring)
"Kodakara Sanbaso" (Children’s Blessing Sanbaso)
"Meguru Hi" (Passing Days)
"Yakko-san & Shishiwa"
"Sawagi" (Festivity)

Usually, Tokyo geisha, except for Hangyoku (apprentice geisha), do not wear shironuri (white makeup). However, at "Invitation to Kagurazaka," many of the tachikata (dancers) wear shironuri, making the event even more elegant and spectacular.

The audience consisted mainly of Japanese guests, including CEOs and chairpersons of major corporations. There were also a few foreign guests in attendance. One notable characteristic of "Invitation to Kagurazaka" was the high percentage of female attendees.

Many people assume that geisha are distant and exclusive, but Kagurazaka geisha are known for their warm and approachable personalities. First-time participants were pleasantly surprised by how friendly and easy to talk to the geisha were.

If you were unable to attend this edition of "Invitation to Kagurazaka," don’t worry! There are more upcoming Kagurazaka geisha events in the near future.
