Race Through World Heritage Sites on a Road Bike!
Since the registration of the Gokayama Gassho no Sato (Gassho-zukuri Villages) as a World Heritage Site in 1995, Nanto City has become known as a city with World Heritage. The Gokayama Gassho no Sato (Ainokura and Suganuma) were registered along with Shirakawa-go in Gifu Prefecture. "Gassho-zukuri houses" are steeply thatched-roof houses characteristic of the Shirakawa-go and Gokayama regions.
In 2016, the Johana Hikiyama Festival was registered as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO, the Fukuno Yotaka Festival was registered as a Future Heritage in 2017, and Inami, the town of wood carvings, was recognized as a Japan Heritage site in 2018. It’s rare to have a cycling event that passes through such culturally valuable areas. This course is highly attractive to both Japanese and foreign riders interested in traditional Japanese culture. Don’t miss this opportunity, and consider participating.
Cultural Ties Between Kagurazaka, Shinjuku, and Nanto City
Kagurazaka in Shinjuku, Tokyo, and Nanto City in Toyama Prefecture share a connection through various traditional cultural events held in Kagurazaka. The performance of the Johana Hikiyama Festival's Iori-uta is recreated at the “Kagurazaka Street Stage O-edo Tour” held in May. Moreover, the traditional Kokiriko Festival's "Sasara Dance" from Gokayama is performed during the "Kagurazaka Machi-tobi Festa (Festival)" held in October and November.
