"Loiseau de France" Will Return to Tokyo in Kagurazaka After 30 Years
"Loiseau de France" will have its pre-opening tomorrow, May 20th, at the Institut français du Japon - Tokyo in Kagurazaka. The grand opening will be on June 20th (Sunday).
"Loiseau de France" is a restaurant that carries on the legacy of the legendary French chef Bernard Loiseau (1951-2003). It returns to Tokyo after 30 years. Bernard Loiseau revolutionized the French culinary world by moving away from the rich, butter-based dishes that were mainstream at the time, focusing instead on bringing out the natural flavors of ingredients. The head chef, Kenji Ichikawa, who trained under Bernard Loiseau in France, will be leading the kitchen.
Dining on French Cuisine in the Courtyard of the Institut Français Is Pure Bliss
Personally, I am very excited to be able to enjoy top-quality French cuisine around Kagurazaka. At "Loiseau de France," you can dine in the magnificent courtyard surrounded by the terraces and corridors of the Institut français du Japon - Tokyo. Dining in such a beautiful, park-like environment, where wild birds gather, is the epitome of luxury. I once enjoyed authentic French cuisine in the courtyard of the restaurant that used to be at the Institut français du Japon - Tokyo, and during that time, I felt an overwhelming sense of happiness, almost forgetting that I was in Japan. The slightly hidden location gives it a secretive feel, making you forget you're in the city.
Established in 1952, the Institut français du Japon - Tokyo is a French language school and cultural center managed and operated by the French government. Adjacent to Kagurazaka, known as "Petit France" or the "Montmartre of Japan," it contributes to the dissemination and development of French culture in Japan. Thanks to the presence of the Institut français du Japon - Tokyo, many French people have moved to Kagurazaka, creating a unique atmosphere where Edo culture blends with French culture.
Enjoy the Architectural Beauty Designed by Renowned Japanese Architects
The Institut français du Japon - Tokyo was designed by renowned Japanese architects Junzo Sakakura and Sousuke Fujimoto. The new, white building "Village as Institute," designed by Sousuke Fujimoto, will house the new "Loiseau de France" on its first floor. Enjoy the beautiful architectural design as well.
